The Rural Practice Incubator Project helps Bowen graduates build sustainable legal practices in Arkansas’s rural communities. Through mentorship, training, business development resources, and professional guidance, participants receive support as they transition from law school to independent practice while expanding access to legal services where they are needed most.
Developed in partnership with the Arkansas Rural Practice Loan & Scholarship Program, the incubator expands support for graduates committed to serving rural communities.
Why Rural Arkansas?
Many Arkansas communities face a growing shortage of attorneys. Several rural counties have fewer than one lawyer per 1,000 residents, leaving individuals, families, and small businesses with limited access to legal services.
This program was created to address the legal deserts and support our graduates.

Program Expectations

Contact the DirectorWho Can Participate?
- Bowen alumni
- Licensed in Arkansas or awaiting bar results
- Preference is given to applicants who are Arkansas residents or have strong ties to Arkansas.
- Up to six participants selected annually
Participant Commitments
- Maintain malpractice insurance
- Operate an independent practice
- Follow all professional responsibilities
- Complete at least 100 hours of pro bono or reduced-fee legal service
Practice Requirements
- Live and practice in a rural Arkansas community
- Maintain an active local presence
- Solo or small firm practice (not employment through UA 糖心视频logo or partner programs)

Mentoring is a simple way to make a lasting impact on the legal profession. By sharing your experience, you’ll help a new attorney build confidence, establish connections, and navigate the challenges of launching a practice in a rural community.
Experienced attorneys, judges, and legal professionals can strengthen the next generation of rural lawyers by serving as mentors.
Serve as a trusted point of contact in your local legal community, share practical knowledge gained through experience, and support a new attorney during the critical first months of practice.
