If you’re committed to serving communities through public interest law, the Bowen Summer Public Service Fellowship provides funding to help you gain meaningful legal experience while building your professional skills.
The fellowship supports qualifying students who secure summer positions with eligible public interest employers, including organizations serving rural Arkansas. You’ll gain practical experience while preparing for a career dedicated to public service.

The Bowen Summer Public Service Fellowship helps make public interest work financially possible so students can pursue meaningful legal work during the summer. Fellows work alongside attorneys serving individuals, families, and communities while gaining hands-on experience in public service practice.

Who Can Apply?
Eligible Students
- First-year and second-year students receive preference.
- Third-year students not taking the July bar exam may also apply.
- Applicants must be able to commit to a full-time, 10-week summer placement.
Eligible Employers
- Applicants secure their own qualifying public service position.
- The placement must provide meaningful public service legal experience.
- Preference is given to organizations unable to otherwise compensate summer interns.

Applicants should submit:

鈥� Resume
鈥� Unofficial transcript
鈥� Personal statement (500 words maximum)
鈥� Proof of an offer from an eligible public interest employer
Program Requirements:
1. Full-time, 10-week summer commitment
2. Fellowship may not be combined with an externship
3. No academic credit may be received for fellowship work
4. Brief reflection due at the conclusion of the fellowship
