Student Travel Awards Information

The Student Travel Awards provide funding for undergraduate and graduate students to present their research and creative activity at regional, national, or international conferences. Funds for student travel are provided by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research. Students are eligible to receive one Student Travel Award per academic year.

Undergraduate students must find a faculty mentor. For graduate students, a faculty mentor is typically a thesis/project advisor.

To apply, students must submit the documents listed below. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

• Proof of Conference Acceptance or Submission: If students do not yet have an acceptance letter when applying, they should submit proof of conference submission. All students will be required to submit proof of acceptance before the travel money can be awarded.
• Abstract of conference presentation
• Letter of support from an advisor/faculty mentor

Submit the three documents as attachments to a single email. Send the email to Deletta J. Browning, Finance Director for the Office of Vice Provost for Research ([email protected]) and to Anna Jimenez, Assistant Finance Director for the Graduate School.([email protected]).

Notification of Award

The applicant, faculty mentor, department chair and college associate dean will be notified of the award. Awardees who were unable to provide proof of conference acceptance at the time of submission must provide proof of acceptance before the money will be made available.

Disbursement of Funds

Travel funds will be transferred to the college dean鈥檚 office. The college staff will assist the student with travel arrangements and documents/processes that must be submitted both before and after the travel.

What to Do After Being Notified of Award

• Workday tasks: When a student receives an award, the faculty mentor and the department are expected to ensure the student has an approved spend authorization submitted in Workday (before travel is completed) and an approved expense report (after travel is completed).
• Participation in UA 糖心视频logo Research and Creative Works Expo: Students who win a travel award are required to participate in the UA 糖心视频logo Research and Creative Works Expo.
