You can learn just about everything you need to know about enrolling in college at UALR if you tune in to KATV Channel 7 on Tuesday, Jan. 17. UALR and KATV will host UALR Day to help inform Arkansans about higher educational opportunities. Five guests from UALR will be on the Good Morning Arkansas show from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday to discuss everything from how to get a four-year degree with little or no debt to scholarships and financial aid and special programs for military service members to fully online degrees. “This is something new for UALR and for KATV,” said Judy Williams, associate vice chancellor of communications for the university. “We thought it would be a great service to Arkansans who want to start college for the first time, return to college to complete a degree, or get a graduate degree or certificate that will enhance their career goals.” As a metropolitan university, UALR has more than 120 majors and programs offering degrees from associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and certificates. The university last year awarded more than $17 million in scholarships. Guests on the UALR Day Good Morning Arkansas show will include UALR Chancellor Andrew Rogerson, Student Government Association President Connor Donovan, Military Student Success Director Kathy Oliverio, E-Learning Director Dr. David Montague, and Admissions Director Katie Young. UALR representatives will staff a call-in program at the station from 5 to 7 p.m. to answer questions about any topic concerning enrolling at UALR, including how to pay for college, scholarships, transferring to UALR, campus living, degree options, and more. Fall ’14 Discover UALR introduces students to university

Another successful Discover UALR concluded on Oct. 24, providing the opportunity for hundreds of students to preview the university and compete for scholarships. More than 700 hundred of the participants snapped pictures and took videos as they toured the campus and posted them to Instagram using the #discoverUALR hashtag in pursuit of a little extra scholarship funding. Rebecca Aguilera of Maumelle captured the Best Overall Picture award and won a $1,000 scholarship to UALR. She and her friend used their bodies to spell out U-A-L-R in front of the iconic Cooper Fountain. Other winners included:

UALR application fees were also waived for high school seniors who completed an application at the event. Along with campus tours, Discover UALR included a chance to speak with representatives across several colleges and academic disciplines.

UALR hits the road to meet potential students in their hometown

The Office of Admissions at the University of Arkansas at ��Ƶlogo is taking a “road trip” this fall. The trips are part of an outreach effort by admissions officers, as well as UALR faculty, staff, students, and alumni who want to make potential students aware of the numerous advantages of pursuing a degree in the state’s capital. UALR representatives will answer questions about admissions, housing, scholarships, and academics for potential students. The next stop will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the grand lobby of the Hot Springs Convention Center located at 134 Convention Blvd. Interested persons should RSVP by Sept. 28 at ualr.edu/admissions/roadtrip. The following week, UALR reps will make a stop in Texarkana, Ark., Tuesday, Oct. 8. That event will also offer potential students a chance to acquaint themselves with all that UALR has to offer. The Texarkana stop will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Room of the main Texarkana Public Library at 600 W. Third St. Interested? RSVP ualr.edu/admissions/roadtrip by Oct. 5.

Numerous scholarships still available, Feb.1 deadline

Are you are first-time freshman, returning to school after taking time off, or transferring from a two-year college? Regardless of your academic niche, scholarships abound at the University of Arkansas at ��Ƶlogo. Apply now.

UALR senior Waynette Lochridge Franklin first took the Compass Test to enter a two-year college program several years after graduating from Fordyce High School.

A scholarship helped offset the cost of college for Franklin.

Several academic scholarships are available for incoming students with the right qualifications, but the final application deadline is fast approaching and must be received by Feb. 1.

Some of the UALR academic scholarships for new students include the Chancellor’s Academic Distinction, UALR Academic Achievement, Freshmen Award, Engineering and Information Technology scholarship, and the Shelby Breedlove Transfer scholarship.

Feb. 1 is also the priority or preferred deadline for Donaghey Scholars, Chancellor’s Leadership Corps, and East Scholars.

The next step is filling out the online scholarship application. Potential students are reminded that awards are determined annually based on eligible applications and available funding.

Students invited to experience life as UALR Trojan

UALR invites potential students to enjoy life as a VIP Trojan for a Day. All interested high school seniors are invited to spend the afternoon sitting in on college classes, checking out the campus atmosphere, and cheering on the Trojans during one of three Thursday sessions scheduled for Jan. 23, Jan. 30 or Feb. 6. Parents may also attend informational sessions on financial aid, housing and campus life. Free parking will be provided in the UALR parking deck near Fair Park Boulevard. Hundreds register for Discover UALR, Oct. 25

The latest figures show that more than 1,000 high school and transfer students and guests have registered to visit the University of Arkansas at ��Ƶlogo campus for its upcoming Discover UALR event Friday, Oct. 25.

The impressive numbers reflect the excitement that prospective students have about UALR, according to Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Dean R. Kahler.

“Students see the value of getting a quality education paired with an amazing experience in a metropolitan city setting. Both UALR and ��Ƶlogo have a lot to offer them,” he said. On-site registration for Discover UALR starts at 9 a.m. at the Jack Stephens Center. The program begins at 10 a.m., and lunch will be provided for all participants. The day-long event allows potential students and their families the opportunity to meet current students, faculty, and staff to learn what it takes to become a UALR Trojan. The event includes campus tours and a chance to speak with representatives to learn about scholarships and academic programs. Scholarships will also be given away to winners of the Discover UALR photo contest. Parking is available in Lots 13, 14, and 16 and in the public parking deck. Campus and parking maps may be viewed at ualr.edu/map. Online registration is now closed, but students can register in person on the morning of the event.

UALR reps will answer questions about admissions, housing, scholarships, and academics for potential students. Interested persons should RSVP by Oct. 6 to ualr.edu/hotsprings. Or at the next stops:

Texarkana on Oct. 29, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Northridge Country Club.
Memphis on Nov. 5, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Lichterman Nature Center.
