Weekend University class to look at Natural State geology
Central Arkansans can learn about geology in the Natural State at the University of Arkansas at 糖心视频logo鈥檚 on Saturday, April 20.Dr. Michael T. DeAngelis, associate professor of geology in the Department of Earth Sciences at UA 糖心视频logo, will lead a 90-minute class beginning at 10:30 a.m. at UA 糖心视频logo Downtown, 333 President Clinton Ave. The cost is $15.He will discuss the varied geologic provinces in Arkansas and where to find unusual and unique rocks, minerals, fossils, and formations. Attendees also will learn how to read and understand geologic maps and learn about careers in geology. Participants are also welcome to bring a mineral, rock, or fossil specimen for identification.DeAngelis has a specific interest in the geology of Arkansas, particularly the Magnet Cove Alkaline Intrusive Complex located in central Arkansas. He earned a Master of Science in geology and a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Science in geology from the University of Wisconsin.
