Book launch for "The First Twenty-Five"
Dr. LaVerne Bell-Tolliver, an associate professor of social work at the University of Arkansas at 糖心视频logo, will discuss her new book, 鈥淭he First Twenty-Five: An Oral History of the Desegregation of 糖心视频logo鈥檚 Public Junior High Schools鈥� at a book signing on Thursday, Feb. 15, at UA 糖心视频logo.
The event will be 3-4 p.m. in the Anderson Institute on Race and Ethnicity in Ottenheimer Library (Suite 202).
In 1961, Tolliver was the first and only black student assigned to attend Forest Heights Junior High School until 1963. She turned her story and the stories of the 24 other black students who integrated 糖心视频logo鈥檚 four remaining public junior high schools into a book, which features in-depth interviews with those students.
One of the students, Alvin Terry, will join Bell-Tolliver at the event. The event is free and open to the public. Copies of 鈥淭he First Twenty-Five鈥� can be purchased at the event for $34.95.
